Blue Ridge Mountain Adventures
The Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia are the keepers of amazing places to visit and wonders to reveal. Take a road trip through one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world, the Appalachians.
Adventures you will find in the Blue Ridge Mountains vary from hiking to spectacular waterfalls and overlooks, to biking the well known Virginia Creeper Trail ( a 34.3-mile rail-to-recreation trail) and the vast back roads that lead to quaint and historic towns.
Road trips off the beaten path and away from the interstates will lead you through incredibly dense National Forests and back and forth through the switchbacks of Back of the Dragon in Tazewell County.
Are you into books and movies?
Much of the popular book and movie series The Hunger Games is set in “an area that used to be called Appalachia” which is referred to in the book as District 12. Much of the surroundings and culture reflect present day Appalachia, such as reliance on coal mining as an industry.
Other movies made in the region are Wish You Well (2013) filmed in Giles County, Sommersby (1993), Dirty Dancing (1987) filmed up at Mountain Lake Hotel, Evan Almighty (2007), Gods and Generals (2001).
